About The Art Collective 8B

Located in scenic surroundings close to beach and forest and only an hour’s drive from Copenhagen, you will find the newly renovated merchant house, which is home to The Art Collective 8B. 8B is a newly formed communal house and workshop for artists and designers using ceramic and textile in their art production. 8B is driven by local volunteers in cooperation with artists living in Odsherred.

The vision for 8B is to offer a communal house and professional workshop in quiet surroundings for ceramic and textile artists, who wish to develop on a professional and personal level.

As a resident of 8B you will be assigned a private room, a workshop space that you can organise and access to lovely communal areas. All in all, this creates a calm and informal space for creativity.

It is possible to apply for a stay in The Art Collective 8B for a period of 2-12 months.

The art collective 8B is located in Unnerud, which is a small village on the Egebjerg peninsula barely an hour’s drive from Copenhagen. There is 700 meters to the beach, where there is a jetty during the summer months and approximately 2 kilometres to Ulkerup forest and Stokkebjerg forest. In Egebjerg, approximately 2 kilometres from Unnerud there is a supermarket, the culture and village hall and a school. Here you will also find the ecovillage Fri & Fro and soon the upcomming one, Egeskoven. The nearest provincial towns are Vig and Nykøbing Sj., which are both located approximately 9 kilometres from Unnerud. From Vig you can take the train to Holbæk, where there is a connecting train to Copenhagen.

Unnerud is an active village, where there are 14 families of all ages. There is a communal dinner in the old merchant house several times a year and the residents of 8B are of course invited.

The story of The Art Collective 8B

The Art Collective 8B saw the light of day in 2018, when the local merchant house in the village of Unnerud was put up for sale and the locals quickly formed a charitable association and bought the house. The locals had a desire to use the old merchant house in order to create a more vibrant atmosphere in the village and at the same time help young artists on their way to creating a career. Local volunteers worked together with several artists from Odsherred and Copenhagen and started planning what today has become The Art Collective 8B.

As a young ceramic or textile designer, it can be difficult to break through and make a living as an artist. There is a great demand for workshop spaces in Copenhagen and the prices are therefore very high. The purpose of 8B is also to give young/recently graduated artists the opportunity to develop personally and artistically in professional surroundings at reasonable prices.
